Going to the movies got cheaper as summer blockbuster season wrapped up and fall dawned.
The average ticket price fell 3.6% from the previous quarter to $8.08 for the three months ending in September, according to the National Assn. of Theatre Owners, the exhibition industry’s main lobbying arm. That was down slightly from the April through June period when a flood of 3D and Imax titles carrying surcharges sent ticket prices soaring to $8.38.
It’s up slightly from the year-ago period, when ticket prices averaged $7.84, but a little less than the full 2013 average of $8.13.
The overall box office during the period trailed the previous summer’s, but did field a number of substantial hits such as “The Maze Runner, ” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
