Australia’s Animal Logic Poised to Produce Next Three ‘Lego’ Movies

HONG KONG — Sydney-based animation and VFX studio Animal Logic is in advanced negotiations with Warner Bros. to secure production duties on the next three Lego movies.

The studio, which was a producer on franchise-launching hit “The Lego Movie,” directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is poised to create a Lego pipeline.

While the deal has not been finalized, sources close to the production confirmed to Variety the status of the discussions.

The New South Wales state government is expected to make some financial contribution to the pictures. And they would be expected to qualify for Australia’s rebate schemes.

The pipeline would handle the two spin-offs “Lego Batman,” and “Ninjago” and eventually the proper sequel “The Lego Movie 2.”

Lord and Miller are not certain to direct the sequel, though they are expected to write it.

Ninjago” is to be directed by Charlie Bean based on the Cartoon Network animated series of the same name, and will be released in 2016. “Lego Batman” will be directed by Chris McKay and releases in 2017. “The Lego Movie 2” will likely be released in 2018.
