Paramount Acquires Spec From Anthony Mackie and Justin Simien

Paramount Pictures has acquired the spec “Make a Wish” with Anthony Mackie attached to star and “Dear White People” director Justin Simien on board to direct.

The spec was written by Zach Frankel and was selected for the 2014 Black List that was announced earlier this week.

The spec tells the story of a 14-year-old football fanatic, dying of cancer, who wishes to meet with his favorite football star, Butchie Jones (Mackie), only to then coerce his idol into helping him “score” before his time runs out.

Jason Spire and Bob Teitel are producing.

Mackie has a busy 2015 ahead of him with “Our Brand Is Crisis,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Triple Nine” and the untitled Christmas movie all bowing next year. He is repped by UTA and Inspire Entertainment.

Simien is repped by WME and Oasis Media Group. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

    Film Review: 'White as Snow'

Anne Fontaine’s present-day female-sexual-empowerment fable “White as Snow” is not a Snow White story per se, although it’s fun to think of Isabelle Huppert’s character — an aging health-spa diva who becomes diabolically envious of her stepdaughter — as the wicked queen. This, one might argue, was a campy role the icy French star was [...]
