Dances With Films Festival Announces Lineup

Los Angeles’ film festival of emerging talent, Dances With Films, has announced this year’s lineup.

The 11-day festival will celebrate more than 100 independent films, all competing under the same motto: “Love Your Journey.” And, for the first time, DWF’s competition feature Audience Award winner will love his or her journey even more with the prize of a L.A. theatrical distribution commitment of one week at the Arena Cinema.

Other prizes include a VOD distribution deal with Gravitas Ventures for the Grand Jury Award winner. The short Grand Jury Award and Audience Award winners will both receive Academy Qualifying theatrical runs from Laemmle Theaters.

New to the festival will be producer, chairman and exec VP of the New York Giants Steve Tisch, (pictured) who will serve on the advisory board.

Dances With Films takes place at Chinese Theatres May 29 to June 8.

    Film Review: 'Shazam!'

In “Shazam!,” Zachary Levi brings off something so winning it’s irresistible. He plays a square-jawed, rippling-muscled man of might, with a cheesy Day-Glo lighting bolt affixed to his chest, who projects an insanely wholesome and old-fashioned idea of what a superhero can be. But he’s also playing a breathless teenage kid on the inside, and [...]

    Film Review: 'The Dirt'

A long time ago, the words sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll carried a hint of danger. The lifestyle did, too, but I’m talking about the phrase. It used to sound cool (back around the time the word “cool” sounded cool). But sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll has long since passed into the realm [...]
