Nicolas Cage is materializing in Voltage Films’ supernatural thriller “Pay the Ghost” with Uli Edel (“The Baader Meinhof Complex”) directing.
Producers are Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and Craig Flores along with Ian Levy of Midnight Kitchen Prods. Mike Nilon is exec producing and Voltage’s Babacar Diene and Dominic Rustam are co-producing.
Voltage is launching sales at Cannes and currently casting the principal female role with the aim to begin shooting in the late summer.
Cage will play a hard-working NYU English professor bucking for tenure when his 8-year-old son mysteriously vanishes from a Halloween day parade. The screenplay was written by Dan Kay, based on a short story of the same name written by fantasy novelist Tim Lebbon.
Kay developed the script with Levy on spec and it was acquired by Voltage. Edel recently directed the Lionsgate/History Channel miniseries “Houdini,” starring Adrian Brody and Kristen Connolly.
Cage was most recently seen in “Joe,” which prompted producers to seek him out for “Pay the Ghost.” He is also on board the upcoming crime thriller “The Trust” with Jack Huston with Alex and Ben Brewer on board to direct.
Chartier produced “The Hurt Locker,” “The Company You Keep” and “Zero Theorem.”
Dominic Rustam negotiated the deal on behalf of Voltage.
Cage is represented by CAA and manager Mike Nilon. Edel is repped by Gersh and Kay is repped by APA and New Wave Entertainment.
