Sverrir Gudnason (“Monica Z”) and Karin Franz Körlof (“Nobody Owns Me”) are set to co-star in thesp-turned-director Pernilla August’s epic love story “The Serious Game.”
Lone Scherfig, whose credits include “An Education” and “The Riot Club,” penned the script based on Hjalmar Söderberg’s classic novel.
Set in the beginning of the 20th century Stockholm, “The Serious Game” turns on a young couple who fall madly in love but eventually separate and marry other people. Ten years later they meet again and start an affair that has unforeseeable consequences on their lives.
August, who previously starred in “Call Girl” and directed “Beyond,” said “The Serious Game” was “about the dream and longing for the one great love. About Lydia and Arvid who say no, when we want them to say yes.”
Movie is produced in association with Film i Väst, SVT, Motlys, Nordsvensk Filmunderhållning and Nimbus Film. It’s being backed by the Swedish Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Institute, Media Desk and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
