New Europe is selling all international rights, while North America is being handled by Paradigm.
The pic, which is the second feature to be helmed by American actress Josephine Decker, is a sensual thriller inspired by “East of Eden,” set on a farm in Kentucky. Pic, which raised funds for its post-production through KickStarter, stars Sophie Traub, Joe Swanberg and Robert Longstreet.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1585884351/thou-wast-mild-and-lovely
Among the other feature films on the sales slate of New Europe, which is the only sales agent to be based in Poland, is “Papusza,” which screens at the Rotterdam and Goteborg film festivals. The gypsy poet biopic, which was helmed by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, played in competition at Karlovy Vary, where it earned a special mention from the jury.
Also on New Europe’s slate is Janis Nords’ “Mother I Love You,” which played in the Generation KPlus section at the Berlinale last year and picked up the jury’s Grand Prix. Latvia selected the film, which is about a 12-year-old boy whose spiral of lies spins out of control, as its foreign-language film Oscar candidate. The film also won top prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
The short films in the company’s catalog include Tomasz Popakul’s animated short “Ziegenort,” which won the Principal Prize at Oberhausen last year, and Selma Vilhunen and Kirsikka Saari’s live-action comedy pic “Do I Have to Take Care of Everything?,” which is an Oscar nominee this year.
