KMBO Acquires Swedish Toon ‘Emil & Ida’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Paris-based KMBO has acquired all French distribution rights to “Emil & Ida in Lonneberga,” a Swedish animated feature based on Astrid Lindgren’s popular children’s novels.

Directed by animation vet Per Ahlin, “Emil & Ida” follows the adventures of Emil, a little pranskter who lives on a farm in a small Swedish village with his parents and little sister.

Lindgren’s novels were translated in 44 languages. The feature grossed a healthy $1.4 million in Sweden where it was given a wide release on Dec. 25 handled by SF Film. It also opened in Denmark on January 23.

Lars Blomgren at Filmlance International and Malini Ahlberg at Pennfilm produced it with the support of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

KMBO will be releasing the feature in theaters by the end of the year and will work with French schools networks, explained Gregoire Marchal, head of distribution for Gregoire Marchal, who attended Annecy.

The Gallic distributor also recently acquired “Blind,” Norwegian director Eskil Vogt’s feature debut, which won the screenwriting prize at Sundance.
