Horror Romance ‘Spring’ Sells to Latin America (EXCLUSIVE)

Deal closed at Mexico's Los Cabos Festival

Italy-set romantic horror pic “Spring,” which had its Latin American premiere Thursday at the Los Cabos Film Festival, has been acquired by CineTren for Latin America.

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (“Resolution”) direct the love story with a sci-fi horror twist that stars Lou Taylor Pucci and Nadia Hilker. It follows the story of a young man in a personal tailspin who flees California to the Italian coast, where he meets a woman who carries a dark secret.

Drafthouse Films and Film Buff acquired U.S. rights after the film’s Toronto premiere, with plans for an early 2015 release.

Spring” was produced by Benson, Moorhead and David Lawson, with 9.99 Films producing the film in Italy. XYZ Films partners Nate Bolotin, Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian and Todd Brown are executive producers.

The deal was negotiated by Nate Bolotin and Mette-Marie Katz of XYZ Films, and by Manuel Garcia of CineTren at the Grand Solmar Hotel in Cabo San Lucas.

XYZ has also sold the pic to Madman in Australia, HGC in China, AT Entertainment in Japan, Falcon in the Middle East, MandarinVision in Taiwan and pan- Asia pay TV rights to Fox International Channel in addition to the previously announced Raven Banner in Canada and Metrodome in the U.K.
