Canadian shingle Attraction has closed major territory deals on Ask Hasselbalch’s “Antboy,” Denmark’s first superhero movie. Pic made its world premiere in Toronto. Meanwhile, Danish production shingle Nimbus has greenlit the sequel, “Antboy II.”
“Antboy,” which centers on 12-year-old boy who is bitten by an ant and develops superpowers, has been acquired by Viva Pictures (U.S.), MFA-Plus (German-speaking territories), TV Globo (Brazil), 97 Prods. (France), Mucho Bueno Films (Spain), Estin Films (Estonia), Fivia D.O.O. (former Yugoslavia), Jekino (Benelux, Flemish-speaking territories)
Attraction Distribution will release the pic in Canada.
Bioparadis will distribute the pic Iceland and Kinoscreen will roll it in Finland.
Other distributors onboard include Vapet (Czech and Slovakia) and Polmedia (Poland). SF Film released the first pic in Denmark on Oct.3.
Pic’s producer, Eva Jakobsen, told Variety that “Antboy II” will be set up as Danish/German co-production and will be shooting in Hamburg and Copenhagen.
“The first film was the origin story and this time we get to expand the universe add more characters and unfold a more emotional and even more exciting story,” Hasselbalch said.
The lensing of “Antboy II” is skedded to begin Feb. 25.
