Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘Beauty’ To Open Los Angeles-Italia Showcase

ROME – Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Great Beauty” will open the 9th Los Angeles-Italia Film Fashion and Art Festival, the annual pre-Oscars showcase celebrating Italian cinema and its Hollywood ties, which will also be feting Valeria Golino and David O. Russell.

Beauty,” which is up for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, will screen on Februray 23 at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

The longstanding collaboration between Sorrentino and the pic’s protag, Toni Servillo (pictured), is also being celebrated with screenings of several other works the two Neapolitan talents paired-up on.

Other Italo titles unspooling in the showcase, which will run through March 1, include Marco Simon Puccioni’s drama “Like the Wind,” about a woman prison director, played by Golino, Carlo Carlei’s “Romeo and Juliet,” Roberto Faenza’s holocaust drama ”Anita B,” and Enzo D’Alò’s animated “Pinocchio.”

Fest will also honor Italo singer/songwriter Francesco De Gregori and the memory of late Spaghetti Westerns star Giuliano Gemma. David O. Russel is being honored as a friend of the event due to his ties to Italy, since his mother is from Calabria.

Los Angeles-Italia is chaired this year by Joe Mantegna with producer Monika Bacardi as president.

Event is headed by Pascal Vicedomini, a journo with pubcaster RAI. L.A. Italia is a sister event to two Italian fests, Capri-Hollywood and Ischia Global, both founded by Vicedomini and dedicated to establishing a creative and business bridge between Hollywood and Italy’s film and showbiz communities.
