Karlovy Vary to Present European Premiere of Concert Movie ‘Björk: Biophilia Live’

The Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival will present the European premiere of concert movie “Björk: Biophilia Live,” with directors Peter Strickland and Nick Fenton attending the gala presentation.

In 2011 Icelandic artist Björk came out with the Biophilia project. As well as the album, the project includes performances, interactive applications, and educational programs. These have been augmented by a film of the concert shot at London’s Alexandra Palace, where Björk ended the Biophilia tour.

Fenton is an acclaimed British film editor, whose credits include work with Turner prizewinner Jeremy Deller and British director Clio Barnard. He also worked with Icelandic band Sigur Ros on their films “Heima” (2007) and “Inni” (2011), both of which were shown at Karlovy Vary.

Strickland directed drama “Katalin Varga,” which was awarded a Silver Bear at the Berlinale for outstanding sound design, and “Berberian Sound Studio,” a playful tribute to Italian horror films of the 1970s. The latter film brought Strickland a British Independent Film Award for best director.

The “Biophilia” film also features an angelic Icelandic choir and Austrian percussionist Manu Delago, as well as collages referencing tectonic plates, DNA, the moon, and other objects of scientific interest.
