ROME – Prominent Greek indie producers Giorgos Karnavas and Kostantinos Kontovrakis, whose Athens-based Heretic Productions is known for recent fest circuit standouts such as Ektoras Lygizos’ “Boy Eating the Bird’s Food,” is launching Heretic Outreach, a new-concept company being touted as the first outfit focussed on sales and international distribution of films from South-Eastern Europe.

Heretic has tapped Ioanna Stais, formerly with Paris-based sales company Wide Management’s Eye on Films label dedicated to first and second works, as Heretic Outreach’s head of festivals and sales.

As indie pics everywhere find it harder to circulate, Heretic Outreach is positioning itself as a one-stop sales agent/consultant/strategist for filmmakers from South-Eastern Europe, and also for film institutes and film funds from the region.

They plan to focus mainly on pics produced or co-produced by one of the following countries: Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYR Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey and Cyprus.

Heretic’s core activity will be launching titles via film festivals, as the first step towards theatrical and VoD distribution.

Their slate, which they will announce shortly, will start out with no more than six titles, that they will take to all major European markets.
