StudioCanal produced and financed the film, which is based on the novel “The Prone Gunman” by Jean-Patrick Manchette. The story follows a former special forces officer, played by Penn, who is suffering from PTSD and must make a run across Europe to clear his name.
“We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Studiocanal, Joel Silver and the entire team behind ‘The Gunman,'” said Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg.
Silver produced the film, along with Andrew Rona and Penn. Adrian Guerra and Peter McAleese exec produced. The distrib is still finalizing release plans.
The deal was negotiated by Ortenberg, Elliott Kleinberg and Peter Lawson on behalf of Open Road, with head of international sales Anna Marsh representing StudioCanal.
