‘Boyhood’ Stars Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke to Receive Award at Santa Barbara Film Fest

Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke have been honored with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s 2015 American Riviera Award, marking the first time the distinction has been awarded to two honorees. The tribute will take place on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Arlington Theatre.

“To honor Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke with the American Riviera Award is an immense privilege for SBIFF,” said SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling. “Both have careers filled with significant achievements both on and off camera including their roles in Richard Linklater’s ‘Boyhood’ — which features some of the most unique performances of the year in a project they worked on for over a dozen years — and proves that they’re artists that continue to evolve and inspire us.”

The American Riviera Award is given to actors and directors who have had a strong influence on American cinema, with previous honorees including Robert Redford (2014), Quentin Tarantino (2013), Martin Scorsese (2012), Annette Bening (2011), Sandra Bullock (2010), Mickey Rourke (2009), Tommy Lee Jones (2008), Forrest Whitaker (2007), Philip Seymour Hoffman (2006), Kevin Bacon (2005) and Diane Lane (2004).

Arquette’s filmography includes Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead,” Rupert Wainwright’s “Stigmata,” Sean Penn’s “The Indian Runner,” John Madden’s “Ethan Frome,” Tony Scott’s “True Romance,” Michel Gondry’s “Human Nature,” Tim Burton’s “Ed Wood,” David O. Russell’s “Flirting With Disaster,” John Boorman’s “Beyond Rangoon,” David Lynch’s “Lost Highway,” Stephen Frears’ “Hi Lo Country” and Roland Jaffe’s “Goodbye Lover.” Arquette has already been honored for her work in “Boyhood” by the New York Film Critics Circle with their 2014 Award for Best Supporting Actress, and was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Hawke’s previous collaborations with Linklater include “Fast Food Nation,” “Waking Life,” “The Newton Boys,” “Tape” and trilogy he starred in opposite Julie Delpy — “Before Sunrise,” “Before Sunset” and “Before Midnight.” Other work includes Antoine Fuqua’s “Training Day,” Peter Weir’s “Dead Poets Society,” Andrew Niccol’s “Gattaca,” Sidney Lumet’s “Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead,” “Gary David Golberg’s “Dad,” Ben Stiller’s “Reality Bites,” Frank Marshall’s “Alive,” Alfonso Cuaron’s “Great Expectations,” Michael Almereyda’s “Hamlet,” and Antoine Fuqua’s “Brooklyn’s Finest.” Hawke has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in “Boyhood.”

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival runs January 27 – February 7, 2015.
