The Thailand Intl. Film Destination Festival is to take place for a second time in April.

The locations promotional event will run April 20-29 at Bangkok’s Paragon complex.

“While it was initially planned as a one-off event, its success encouraged the Thailand Film Office (part of the) Department of Tourism to run it again in 2014, and there are plans to run it as an annual event,” said Ubolwan Sucharitakul, director of the Thailand Film Office.

The festival will include a Thailand on Screen program showing 15 films produced by international production companies and filmmakers, all of which were shot entirely or mainly in Thailand. Details will be confirmed on April 4.

The Amazing Thailand Film Challenge short film competition will also return. It will bring 100 aspiring young filmmakers to Thailand to make a short film and present their pics at the closing ceremony. After criticism of the mixture of filmmakers last year, a professional category has been added this time round.

Some 67 foreign feature films shot wholly or partially in Thailand last year, up from 53 in 2012. The country welcomed an increased total of 717 films last year (2012: 636) including musicvideos, shorts and advertisements. Their combined production spend in the country rose from THB1.78 billion ($55 million) to THB2.17 billion ($67.8 million).
