Singapore Festival to Launch Script Development Lab

HONG KONG – The revived Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), set to take place in December, will contain a script development workshop.

The Southeast Asian Film Lab is a seven day writing workshop (Dec 8-14, 2014) aimed at screenwriters and writer-directors, age 18-35 from the SE Asia region. It will be run by Singapore-based Spanish producer Fran Borgia and Malaysian film-maker Tan Chui Mui.

Ten participants will be selected to attend a series of master-classes and screenings with established practitioners from the region on possible writing approaches. They will also receive individual advice from mentors, and eventually conduct a story pitch in front of an industry panel.

“Our thinking behind the Southeast Asian Film Lab is to unearth potential stories from the region, and explore the richness of Southeast Asian culture through the medium of film. We will build up mutual appreciation and respect for our heritage amongst the participants in Singapore and the region,” said executive director of SGIFF Yuni Hadi.

The SGIFF will run December 4 – 14, 2014.
