Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ Has Stellar Overseas Box Office

Shah Rukh Khan’s Bollywood film “Happy New Year” has grossed $13 million overseas in 11 days of release.

Directed by Farah Khan (no relation to Shah Rukh) and co-starring Deepika Padukone, “Happy New Year,” which bowed on the prime movie-going Hindu holiday of Diwali, is on track to beat Hrithik Roshan’s “Bang Bang,” which has grossed $13.1 million since opening Oct. 2.

“HYN” had the highest opening weekend in the Persian Gulf, South Africa, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Germany, according to producer Red Chillies Ent.

“The response to ‘HNY’ is phenomenal in first 10 days’ run and will continue to create new benchmarks in international markets. We are yet to open non-traditional markets, which will add significantly to the international box office numbers,” said Red Chillies’ chief revenue officer Gaurav Verma.
