Russell Peters, Sean Astin Say ‘Ribbit’ to Malaysian Animation

HONG KONG – An English-language voice cast headed by Canadian comedian Russell Peters and Sean Astin (“Lord of the Rings”) have been set for Malaysian 3D animation “Ribbit,” about a frog with an identity crisis.

Other cast includes Tim Curry and Cherami Leigh from “Fast Food Nation.”

The film is co-produced by Malaysia’s KRU Studios and India’s Crest Animation (“Alpha And Omega”) with partial finance from the Malaysian government’s Multimedia Development Corporation.

Directed and written by Chuck Powers ”Ribbit” is the story of an Amazon journey undertaken by a frog who hates hopping and has a strong aversion to water.

The completed picture is expected to be screened in the Cannes Market, having been introduced at project stage in 2012. The pic is represented by United Studios, which claims rights sales covering 80 territories. It expects to announce a North American deal in Cannes.
