Korea Box Office: ‘Bride’ Continues to Run Away On Slow Weekend

SEOUL — Korean romantic comedy “My Love, My Bride” kept its leading position as the top three spots at the Korean box office remained unchanged.

This weekend is traditionally slow as it is a time when many Korean go outdoors to enjoy the changing colors of leaves.

“My Love,” a remake of a 1990 title, starring one of Korea’s most bankable female stars, Shin Min-a (“A Bittersweet Life”) scored US$2.98 million (KRW 3.16 billion) from 596 screens over the strictly defined Friday-Sunday weekend, for a cumulative total of $10.7 million (KRW 11.3 billion).

U.S. import, “Dracula Untold” held second position, earning US$2.01 million (KRW 2.12 billion) from 430 screens, taking its cumulative score to US$7.52 million (KRW 7.97 billion)

Local thriller, “The Informant” which opened on Oct. 2, remained in third, taking US$1.24 million (KRW 1.32 billion) for a cume of US$11.4 million (KRW 12.1 billion).

Pierce Brosnan starrer “November Man” (pictured) debuted quietly at number four, taking US$ 932,000 (KRW 987 million) from 395 screens.

More impressive was the launch of French comedy, “Serial (Bad) Weddings” (“Qu’est-ce que on a fait au bon Dieu?”) which took US$628,000 (KRW 665 million), debuting at the sixth spot.

U.S. horror “Annabelle” took in a disappointing US$545,000 (KRW 577 million) from 300 screens.

Fox Korea’s local comedy “Slow Movie” (aka “Slow Video”) slid down four places to number 8, only managing US$411,000 (KRW 435 million) for a cume of US$8.22 million (KRW 8.71 billion).

As “Begin Again” hung in there at the 9th spot since opening on Aug. 13, and a Japanese kids title, “Power Ranger Dino Force Vs Go Busters Dinosaurs Great Battle” took US$ 121,000 (KRW 128 million) rounding out the top 10.
