HONG KONG — Australia’s Jocelyn Moorhouse has completed production of drama “The Dressmaker,” with an all-star cast headed by Kate Winslet, Hugo Weaving, Judy Davis and Liam Hemsworth.
The picture is a tale of love, revenge and haute couture that Moorhouse has described as “’Unforgiven’ with a sewing machine.”
The story follows Winslet as a glamorous young woman who returns to small town Australia after many years in Europe, aiming to right some wrongs from the past, including a previous accusation of murder. However she unexpectedly falls in love, and sparks her most destructive deed.
Filming took place entirely in the Docklands Studio Melbourne and in Victoria state. Post Production is under way at Soundfirm Melbourne with composer, David Hirschfelder (“Elizabeth,” “Shine”) and editor Jill Bilcock (“Moulin Rouge”).
“The Dressmaker” was financed with the assistance of Screen Australia, the Ingenious Senior Film Fund (advised by Ingenious Media and Apollo Media), White Hot Productions, Motion Picture Lighting, Film Victoria and Soundfirm.
The film will be released in Australia and New Zealand by Universal Pictures International (UPI), with a tentative release date of Oct. 1, 2015.
It is being sold worldwide by U.K. based sales agent Embankment Films and co-represented in the US with CAA.
Other cast include Rebecca Gibney, Kerry Fox , Caroline Goodall, Gyton Grantley, Sacha Horler, Shane Jacobson, Sarah Snook and Barry Otto
