GOA — Indian studio Viacom 18 has signed a letter of intent with Chinese companies Taihe Entertainment Corporation and Shinework Media to co-produce “Kung-Fu Yoga”.
To be directed by Stanley Tong, the film is expected to star Jackie Chan. Tong and Chan have worked together previously on several films including “The Myth”, “Rumble in the Bronx” and “First Strike”. Indian casting and other logistics will be finalised over the next three months.
India and China signed a long awaited co-production agreement in September. “Kung-Fu Yoga” will be produced under this agreement.
“Considering the government’s latest step to invite Chinese investments and collaborate with a civilization as old and rich as our own, the alliance stands to offer a unique opportunity to co-create and develop strong cultural experiences and exchange of talent,” said Viacom18 Motion Pictures COO Ajit Andhare.
Viacom 18 is a joint venture between U.S. media conglomerate Viacom and India’s Network 18 Group. Taihe runs several film, television and music production companies in China. Shinework produces world cinema programs for the China Movie Channel and plays an assisting role for the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film & Television and the Film Bureau to promote international cultural communication between China and the world.
