HONG KONG — Production is now under way on a Chinese remake of “Bride Wars,” the 2009 comedy that originally starred Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.
The Chinese-language retread stars Angelababy and Ni Ni and tells of two friends who become rivals and go to extreme lengths of oneupmanship when their weddings are booked on the same day.
Tony Chan, who previously directed other FIP films in China “Hot Summer Days” and “Love In Space,” returns as director. Also returning from those two outings are Fruit Chan as producer and Wing Shya as visual supervisor.
“‘Bride Wars’ is the first of several co-productions between Bona and Fox to commence principal photography. This is a defining project from our relationship. It will hold special appeal to the vast Chinese audience,” said Yu Dong, Bona’s chairman and CEO.
Bona will release the film in China, 20th Century Fox will handle international distribution.
FIP, headed by Sanford Panitch, has numerous relationships in Asia and China, including ones with the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), Bona and Ivanhoe Pictures.
