Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” swung back to the top spot at the Chinese box office, beating last week’s winner “The Expendables 3” by a hair.

Over the seven days (Sept. 8-14) “Apes” grossed $20.08 million for a cumulative score of $102.3 million after 17 days of release, according to Chinese data provider Entgroup. “Expendables 3” managed $20.04 million for a 14 day cume of $61.97 million.

Over the weekend itself, Warner Bros reported $7.7 million for new release “Into The Storm,” while Fox reported $7.64 million for “Apes.” Rentrak reported $7.5 million for ‘Expendables.” Entgroup reports “Storm” as whipping up $7.64 million over the weekend, which puts the film in fifth spot for the week.

Chinese romance “But Always” held third spot for the second successive weekend, earning $16.1 million for a 10-day cume of $27.9 million.

In fourth place on the week was new entry “Divergent,” which scored $9.37 million in its 7-day first frame, and $9.52 million including previews.

Outside the top five, other movies were fighting for scraps. French romance “Beauty And The Beast” claimed sixth spot with $1.65 million in three days. “How To Train Your Dragon 2” in tenth spot added $560,000 for a 32 day score of $65.1 million.
