CANNES: China Lion Connects With ‘Breakup Guru’

Day-and-date release set for romantic comedy.

China Lion Film Distribution has acquired North American rights to Chinese romantic comedy “The Breakup Guru.”

Acquired from Enlight Pictures, the film stars Deng Chao and Yang Mi (aka Mini Yang).

China Lion, which also acquired Australia and New Zealand rights, says it plans to give the film a North American outing on June 27, a day-and-date slot with its mainland China release. The release will include major theaters in Los Angeles, New York, the San Francisco/San Jose area, Vancouver and Toronto.

China Lion also announced a home entertainment deal with Digital Media Rights (DMR) during the Cannes Market.

The company recently released Dante Lam’s “That Demon Within” on April 18. “Beijing Love Story,” which it opened on February 14 for Valentine’s Day, became the company’s highest grossing film in the U.S. and Canada. It previously handled mainland titles including “Aftershock,” “Personal Tailor” and “If You Are the One 2.”
