Jim Parsons Picks Up Pair of Puny Manhattan Penthouses

BUYERS: Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak
LOCATION: New York City, N.Y.
PRICE: $3,615,000 (total)
SIZE: 930 square feet (total)

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: After long and contentious negotiations earlier this year, sitcom superstar Jim Parsons and two of his “Big Bang Theory” co-stars signed deals in August (2014) that will bring them each an estimated $90 million-$100 million in salary and other revenues over the term of the contracts. The four-time Emmy winner, one of the few but growing crew of out gay actors in Hollywood, has spent several million of his fresh riches expanding his real estate holdings in New York City.

In July 2011 Mister Parsons and his long-time man-friend, graphic designer-art director Todd Spiewak, dropped $1.822 million on a 908-square foot, two bedroom and one bathroom condo in an illustrious, gargoyle-encrusted Gothic-style apartment house across from private Gramercy Park. Almost exactly one year later, in what appears to have been an off-market deal, the couple coughed up another $2.825 million for the larger apartment next door that — as far as our research indicates — spans 1,280 square feet, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Let’s just assume without any direct knowledge the gentlemen combined or at least connected the two apartments, shall we?

The Parson-Spiewaks must really like the building because the property gossips at The Real Deal reported earlier this week that the couple, in simultaneous off-market deals, shelled out another $3.615 million for two positively puny penthouse-level apartments directly above the two units they already own. The larger penthouse unit, as per property records, has just 665 square feet, while the smaller measures in at a positively miniscule 265 square feet. A couple of quick and rudimentary calculations on Your Mama’s bejeweled abacus shows the couple have spent a total of $8.356 million for their quartet of contiguous apartments that encompass a combined 3,118 square feet.

The building, according to digital marketing materials, is slathered in white glazed terra-cotta and lit along the sidewalk by historically accurate gas lamps. The well-heeled residents benefit from white glove services that include 24/7 doormen, concierge access, coveted keys to Gramercy Park, a bicycle storage area and cold storage for grocery and flower deliveries.

Mister Parsons has been busy shuffling his West Coast real estate portfolio this year. In June 2014 he sold his L.A. starter home for $1.575 million. That sale came about six months after the he paid “Twilight” heart throb Rob Pattinson $6,375,000 for a historic Los Feliz property with a long Hollywood pedigree; former owners of Parsons’ lavishly landscaped property include actors Tim Curry and Noah Wylie, Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson, and director Robert Luketic, while some of his high-profile nearby neighbors include Kirstie Alley and also out sitcom star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who owns a 1920s Spanish confection previously owned by Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.
