The studio had previously announced that the highly anticipated 88-second tease would roll out at 30 theaters on Friday, in Regal, Cinemark and AMC venues. The movie will play in front of every movie playing at the venues over the holiday weekend.
It makes sense for Disney to release the teaser online the same day as it hits theaters, avoiding a leak. Just last month, the “Avengers: Age of Ultron” trailer leaked on the web ahead of its originally planned premiere during an episode of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.”
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released Dec. 18, 2015.
