Studio71, the YouTube multichannel network owned by German broadcasting giant ProSiebenSat.1 Group, has launched its first foray in the U.S. with The Mansion, a channel exploring life and culture in Los Angeles.
Videos on The Mansion, shot on location in L.A., will be hosted by German YouTube stars Gronkh and Sarazar, who will engage with YouTubers from Deutschland and America to exchange ideas, share projects and produce video content together. The U.S. contingent will include Dane Boe, creator of The Annoying Orange, and American-German crossover star D.J. Flula.
The channel’s daily segments will “explore the California lifestyle and the digital entertainment industries,” according to Studio71, and will include appearances by Hollywood personalities. The MCN plans to launch a series this fall in Berlin based on The Mansion format.
“As American MCNs are planting their flags in Germany, where we are very strong, our plan is to be the first international MCN to target the American market with The Mansion,” said Sebastian Weil, managing director of Studio71. “We are creating a truly global platform for American branded entertainment sponsors and leading web talent.”
In March, ProSiebenSat.1 acquired a 20% stake in Collective Digital Studio (CDS) through its Red Arrow Entertainment subsidiary. CDS, a subsidiary of L.A.-based The Collective management and production company, operates more than 600 YouTube channels including Video Game High School, The Annoying Orange and Epic Meal Time.
