Justin Bieber is 2014’s Most Tweeted-About Artist

Beyonce’s surprise self-titled album was, unsurprisingly, the most tweeted-about album of 2014, but overall, Justin Bieber generated the most buzz in the music crowd on Twitter, according to a comprehensive new report from the social media platform.

However, despite Bieber landing the number one spot on number of tweets generated, it should be noted that members of One Direction — Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Liam Payne — nabbed the second, third and fourth spots on the list, respectively.

Katy Perry, however, garnered the most followers. The songstress gained 13 million followers this year, bringing her to a whopping 60 million, more than any other musician. Following her in gained followers is Bieber, who brought on 11 million more followers to reach 56 million, and Taylor Swift, who gained 10 million followers to reach 46 million. The three are the most-followed musicians on Twitter.

The report also pointed out that music was the most tweeted-about topic of the year, with hip-hop, R&B and pop being the genres tweeted about the most. Top music-related trends include #vote5sos, #MTVHottest, #VoteDemiLovato, #MTVEMA and #LHHATL.

In the realm of music events, the end of the Super Bowl halftime show featuring Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers generated the most tweets per minute, seeing 229,533 tweets per minute. Following that in tweets per minutes is Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar’s performance during the Grammys (171,593), Lorde winning best pop solo performance at the Grammys (152,888) and Lorde’s performance at the Grammys (146,083).
