AwesomenessTV, the youth-skewing digital entertainment arm of DreamWorks Animation, has hired former Blip Networks CEO Kelly Day in the newly created position of chief digital officer.
Day will oversee AwesomenessTV’s multichannel network and will be responsible for increasing distribution of AwesomenessTV and its partners’ content across all digital platforms and into international markets. She will report to Brett Bouttier, chief operations officer.
Maker Studios, one of the biggest YouTube multichannel networks, bought Blip last fall, after which Day was advising the company. At Blip, Day was in charge of shifting the company’s focus from an online video platform for independent producers to a multiplatform media company.
“Kelly has a strong track record for building multi-platform brands and businesses, which makes her invaluable as we expand AwesomenessTV into new areas,” Brian Robbins, co-founder and CEO of AwesomesnessTV, said in announcing her hiring. “We have an ambitious growth strategy planned for 2014, and Kelly will play a key role on our growing senior management team.”
Prior to joining Blip, Day headed Discovery Communications’ digital media and commerce businesses. Her prior gigs included VP of e-commerce for wedding media company The Knot and executive director of AOL Shopping.
DreamWorks Animation acquired AwesomenessTV last May in a deal worth as much as $117 million. AwesomenessTV properties include the primary YouTube channel with scripted and reality series; AwesomnessX, a channel aimed at boys and young men; and ATV Network, a community-based MCN on YouTube. In addition to the YouTube business, AwesomenessTV produced and distributed feature film “Mindless Behavior: All Around The World” and sold a TV series that aired on Nickelodeon.
