Thursday Ratings: ‘Gracepoint’ Rises in Finale, ‘Reign’ Wraps Fall With Highs

On a night when its rivals struggled, CBS easily won Thursday’s primetime ratings race behind “The Big Bang Theory.” There wasn’t a lot else going on last night, but CW’s “Reign” matched its season high with its fall finale and Fox’s “Gracepoint” picked up some viewers as it wrapped.

Ratings for CBS are subject to change in the nationals due to pre-emptions for the NFL game in both Phoenix and St. Louis, but in the prelims “The Big Bang Theory” (4.0/14 in 18-49, 15.8 million viewers overall) was easily the night’s No. 1 show. It was followed by “Mom” (2.8/9 in 18-49, 11.5 million viewers overall), “Two and a Half Men” (2.5/8 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall), “The McCarthys” (1.8/5 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall) and “Elementary” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall).

It’s hard to get a read on these performances, but “Big Bang” appears to be at or near a season low, but “Mom” looks to be above its last couple of weeks.

Elsewhere, CW matched its Thursday season highs in demos while drawing its largest overall audience on the night (1.6 million) since May. Both “The Vampire Diaries” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 1.8 million viewers overall) and “Reign” (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.4 million viewers overall) rose week to week, with the latter hitting its best numbers since March in women 18-34 (0.8/3), women 18-49 (0.8/2) and total viewers.

At Fox, “Bones” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) was down 0.3 from its above-average score of last week when it faced a repeat “Big Bang” on CBS. And at 9 p.m., the finale of “Gracepoint” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall) was steady in the demo while picking up about 400,000 total viewers week to week.

NBC’s lineup returned after a couple of weeks off, and “The Biggest Loser” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) was on par with its prior episode, and rookie half-hours “Bad Judge” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) and “A to Z” (0.8/2 in 18-49, 2.5 million viewers overall) both showed gains. A repeat of the “Blake Shelton’s Not-So-Family Christmas” special closed out the night (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall).

ABC continues to struggle on Thursdays following the fall finales of its popular drama lineup last month. “The Taste” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall) was down a tick from its weak premiere of the previous week, and a repeat “How to Get Away With Murder” capped the night (0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 2.4/7; NBC, Fox and Univision, 1.0/3; ABC and CW, 0.7/2; Telemundo, 0.5/2.

In total viewers: CBS, 10.3 million; Fox, 4.7 million; NBC, 3.8 million; ABC, 2.9 million; Univision, 2.8 million; CW, 1.6 million; Telemundo, 1.3 million.
