‘Big Brother,’ Finale of ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ Top Thursday Ratings

There was little change in the Thursday primetime ratings race this week, with CBS’ “Big Brother” and Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” in its finale, the night’s top original programs among young adults.

According to preliminary “live plus same-day” national estimates from Nielsen, “Big Brother” averaged a 2.1 rating/7 share in adults 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers overall — winning the 9 o’clock hour across the board. It was down a tick in the demo and up a smidge in total viewers from last week. CBS opened the night with repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” (1.8/8 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) and “The Millers” (1.3/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall) and closed with an encore “Elementary” (0.7/2 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall).

“Big Bang” won its timeslot across the board and was the night’s No. 2 broadcast in young adults and No. 1 in total viewers. CBS led among networks in 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers.

At Fox, “Hell’s Kitchen” (1.7/7 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) didn’t see any bump for its finale, matching last week’s deliveries and again winning Thursday’s opening hour in 18-49; it was considerably stronger a year ago, though, delivering a 2.1 in the same 8 o’clock hour. It was followed by drama “Gang Related” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.6 million viewers overall), which was about average but down from its seven-week high of last week (0.9). Repeats of “Sleepy Hollow” will lead into “Gang Related” for at least the next couple of weeks.

NBC’s night opened with “Hollywood Game Night” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall), followed by week three of original comedies “Welcome to Sweden” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.9 million viewers overall) and “Working the Engels” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.2 million viewers overall) and then closing with “Last Comic Standing” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall). Every program matched its week-ago 18-49 score

At ABC, the two-hour finale of “Black Box” (0.7/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) was up a tick from last week. And at 10 p.m., despite a lower lead-in this week, “NY Med” held steady (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall), placing a close second among the major networks for its hour in 25-54 (1.2/4) while leading the way in total viewers.

CW aired repeats of “The Vampire Diaries” (0.1/1 in 18-49, 0.5 million viewers overall) and “The Originals” (0.1/0 in 18-49, 0.5 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 1.4/5; Fox, 1.2/5; Univision, 1.2/4; NBC, 1.0/3; ABC, 0.8/3; Telemundo, 0.6/2; CW, 0.1/0.

In total viewers: CBS, 5.4 million; ABC, 4.2 million; Fox, 3.8 million; NBC, 3.3 million; Univision, 3.1 million; Telemundo, 1.4 million; CW, 0.5 million.
