NBCUniversal said Vasant M. Prabhu, a veteran of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, would replace Stuart Epstein as its chief financial officer. A spokeswoman for the company did not offer any details about Epstein’s departure from the company.

Prabhu wil join NBCU on June 1st and report directly to chief executive Steve Burke. In addition to serving as CFO, Prabhu will oversee  NBCUniversal’s technical operations, physical plant, corporate services and information technology functions.

Prabhu has served as CFO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., since 2004. In 2010 Prabhu was named Vice Chairman in recognition of his contributions to the company. At Starwood, Prabhu was responsible for all financial functions, information technology and a range of central corporate services. He has also held positions at Safeway, McGraw Hill Cos., PepsiCo and Booz Allen & Hamilton. He serves on the board of directors of Mattel Inc.

“Vasant is an extremely accomplished and well respected executive and having him on board is a major win for NBCUniversal,” said Burke in a prepared statement. “Our company is performing very well but there is still a great deal we want to achieve. Having spent a considerable amount of time with Vasant, I am confident that he will play a vital and highly valuable role for NBCUniversal.”
