TMZ reportedly paid $250,000 to Standard Hotel employee for video; he was later fired

Beyonce Knowles, Jay Z and Solange Knowles have released a statement regarding the explosive fight that broke out between Solange and Jay Z after the Met Gala.

The statement, which focuses more on the family’s healing process instead of what happened, reads as follows:

“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it,” an exclusive statement to The Associated Press read Thursday.

“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

TMZ, who reportedly paid $250,000 for the video, posted the leaked footage of the elevator fight at the Standard Hotel in New York. The video appeared to show Solange attacking Jay Z in Beyonce’s presence, and a security guard intervenes. There was no audio recorded.

“The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false,” the statement continued. “At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

The video immediately caused mass speculation as to what could have caused the fight. The Twitter hashtag, #WhatJayZSaidToSolange, trended worldwide all day, with memes mocking the situation going viral almost instantly.

The situation escalated when Beyonce allegedly removed all traces of Solange from her personal Instagram account, but that was later proven false.

The Hotel said Wednesday that it fired the employee who recorded the footage.

I think even though that happen wit solange and jz still in all at the end of the day their family and sometimes family falls out but atleast they still have alot of love for each other

Argh Variety, I wish you were a bit less sloppy with your reporting– this wasn’t a fight breaking out between Jay Z & Solange, this was crystal clearly a physical ATTACK on one party by another. Specificity matters. Even if later you make the circumstances a little more clear, your wording paints a wholly inaccurate picture of events.

Secondly- the reports were that SOLANGE deleted all but one picture of Beyonce on her Instagram- & that is TRUE. She may have put them back, I don’t know. But there were tons of fans calling her out on it.

Thirdly- I don’t buy a word of this PR spin.

Oh one more thing regarding your wording this as a Fight between two parties vs an Attack… Just IMAGINE for a split second that the roles were reversed & Jay Z walked into a closed elevator & viciously laid into Solange like that!! Absolutely NO ONE would be ok w/this PR statement… Charges would probably be filed by police even if Solange didn’t want to press & Jay would find his ass in court. No exaggeration.

It makes me angry that the double standard exists. Violence is not ok no matter who the perpetrator.

  3. Mel says:

Does anyone believe their family issues are resolved? Clearly a Jay-Z PR spin….poor Solange is helpless no matter what the issue….Jay-Z will squash her no matter the legitimacy. We all know it

    • Luluinhollywood says:

???!! Did we watch the same video?? Poor Solange..?! Did you grow up thinking it’s ok to kick scratch punch spit to resolve your issues..?

And if I had to bet my right hand I’d say this is more a BEYONCE PR spin… The saddest thing about that video is watching her repeatedly face forward preparing herself for the doors to open & to look as calm & unflustered as possible… & care more about moving her dress out of the way of the scuffle so it wouldn’t get trampled on. Yuck.

  5. DOLLFACE says:

Anyone with a family has crazy simblings or crazy aunties/uncles, etc. This reeks of Bipolar Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder. It’s a private family issue and anyone that has had to deal with/endure this kind of behavior knows it is crazy and you never want to escalate it even further. Bless their family.

    • Mel says:

Typical troll blindly suggesting a mental instability….most mental illness is caused by real concerns being treated as something less significant. Anyone suggesting otherwise is reckless and poorly informed. Educate yourself. Celebrity deserves critical analysis, perhaps even more than the public is willing to confess. Why should Bey or JZ get more coverage than S.? We call bullshit.

In my opinion, it was a publicity stunt to draw attention to their tours.

  7. Robbie Goldstein says:

TMZ taken to the cleaners. Who cares what happens in an Elevator when the participants have all their clothes on..
