Celebrities and other in Hollywood took to social media to express shock over the grand jury decision in the Michael Brown case Monday night, with many of them calling for peaceful demonstrations across the country.
Earlier in the night, a grand jury ruled that Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot and killed the black unarmed 18-year-old, would not be indicted in the case.
Spike Lee, Lena Dunham and Shonda Rhimes were among those in the entertainment community to discuss the Ferguson situation and offer words of peace late Monday.
See the reactions below:
“As a society how do we do better and stop things like this happening time after time!! I’m so sorry to these families. Violence is not the answer people. Retaliation isn’t the solution as well. #PrayersUpToTheFamilies #WeHaveToDoBetter,” said Lebron James on Instagram.
“While I was at the #InternationalEmmys that unsurprising and unjust decision in Ferguson happened. Puts the frivolity and privelege of getting to walk a red carpet into perspective when a lot of black folks can’t even walk the streets without being profiled and murdered, far too often by the folks who are supposed to protect us.#whereIsTheJustice? #WhereIsTheLove #BlackLivesMatter #Ferguson #MikeBrown,” wrote Laverne Cox.
