In what is being buzzed about as a prelude to a possible presidential run, Hillary Clinton will headline a Hollywood-centric fundraiser on Oct. 20 for Democratic Senate candidates, with Jeffrey Katzenberg and Casey Wasserman as hosts, sources said. A number of co-hosts are now being organized.
The $32,400-per-person reception and dinner will be for the Grassroots Victory Project, a joint fundraising committee that includes the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and a number of state-level campaign committees. Also scheduled at the event are Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.). Andy Spahn of Gonring, Spahn & Associates, which represents Katzenberg, is organizing the event.
News of the event was first reported by Politico. A location for the event is to be announced.
Clinton has trekked to L.A. for a number of events since departing as Secretary of State, but this will be her first fundraising blitz, part of extensive plans to campaign and raise for Democratic candidates this fall.
But among industry Democrats, there has been high anticipation for her to run for president, with an announcement expected at the beginning of next year. This is event is being looked at as a debut or prelude of sorts. Tickets to the Oct. 20 event “are flying,” according to one industry source with knowledge of the plans.
President Obama is scheduled to travel to Los Angeles on Oct. 9, for an event at the home of Gwyneth Paltrow to raise midterm money for the Democratic National Committee.
