First Superman Comicbook Sells for $3.2 Million

A pristine edition of “Action Comics No. 1,” which first introduced Superman, has sold for $3.2 million in an auction conducted on eBay.

Bidding ended Sunday evening, with 48 bids received.

A copy of “Action Comics No. 1″ created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and published in June 1938, features mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent in Metropolis and his crime-fighting alter ego, as well as other characters like Lois Lane.

The issue was put up for auction on eBay on Aug. 14, with parts of the final price going to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Bidding began at $1 million.

Collectibles dealer Darren Adams auctioned off the book, calling it “the Mona Lisa of comics and stands alone as the most valuable comic book ever printed.”

There are believed to be only 50 unrestored original copies of “Action Comics No. 1″ still in existence.

Nicolas Cage previously paid $2.16 million for another copy of of the comicbook.
