Danny Moder, Julia Roberts, Robert Greenblatt and Derek Hough are among the list of honorees for this year’s GLSEN Respect Awards – Los Angeles, the annual ceremony celebrating those whose charitable efforts elevated causes important to the LGBT communities and others.

Moder and Roberts will receive the Humanitarian Award for their commitment to, and support of, philanthropic endeavors to causes like GLSEN, UNICEF, Heal the Bay, Stand Up to Cancer, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, and others.  The two are also Emmy nominees this year for their work in HBO’s adaptation of “The Normal Heart,” which is set during the early days of the AIDS epidemic.

The Chairman’s Award will be presented to Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, who has delivered programming featuring many characters and storylines that have been prominent in the LGBTQ community.  Most notably, Greenblat served as executive producer on the long-running HBO drama “Six Feet Under,” which featured a gay relationship and earned him a GLAAD award.

“Dancing with the Stars” choreographer Derek Hough will receive this year’s Inspiration Award, not only for his dedication to his work but for his commitment to speaking out against bullying.

GLSEN will also be presenting the Student Advocate of the Year Award to a still unnamed honoree.

“We are thrilled to announce the honorees for the 2014 GLSEN Respect Awards – Los Angeles, which has become one of the city’s premier events thanks to a deep commitment from our partners in the entertainment industry to help GLSEN realize our vision of a world where every child learns to respect and accept all people,” said Eliza Byard, GLSEN executive director.

Introduced in 2004, the GLSEN Respect awards showcase the work of corporations, individuals, students and educators who have made a difference in the areas of diversity, inclusion and the Safe Schools movement.  The co-chairs for this year’s event are Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Todd Spiewak and Jim Parsons.

The event will be held October 17 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
