BERLIN — The Cannes festival has announced that winners of the main competition will be announced a day earlier than normal, on Saturday May 24, 2014.

Festival organizers said that the unusual measure was being taken because of the European elections that will be held on Sunday May 25.

The final film in competiton will be screened on Friday May 23, with jury deliberations taking place next day.

Winners of the Un Certain Regard sidebar will be unveiled on the Friday.

All Official Selection films will get repeat screenings on the Saturday and Sunday and the 67th event close on Sunday May 25 with the Palme d’Or.
