Arguably the region’s most imaginative developer since Walt Disney, Rick Caruso has altered the way Southern Californians shop and play with the Grove at Farmers Market in Los Angeles and the Americana at Brand in Glendale. Both feature retail, dining and entertainment venues. The Grove also serves as a location for film and TV shoots and concerts. The Americana includes high-end residences.
Now, Caruso’s company, Caruso Affiliated, is turning its attention to Swarthmore Avenue in Pacific Palisades. “We own both sides of the street and that’s a really exciting opportunity,” says Caruso, who hopes to start on the project by the end of 2014. “For years we’ve been in the business of creating new streets from scratch like in the Grove, and this is an opportunity to take an organic street and reinvent it.”
