Tribune Broadcasting Taps Katherine Green as Senior VP of News

Tribune Broadcasting has appointed Katherine Green senior VP of news.

When her duties commence on May 5, Green will oversee all news production and news operations for the 42 stations owned or operated by Tribune Broadcasting. She will report to Larry Wert, Tribune’s president of broadcast media.

Green, who began her career as a police reporter at WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Fla., previously spent six years at CNN Worldwide and most recently served as senior VP and managing editor of HLN, where she was responsible for the programming, operation and editorial direction of the network. Her 30+ years of experience in television production also includes stints as VP and news director at WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. and news director at WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

The Emmy and Peabody winner is also in the process of earning her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law.

“Katherine is a visionary leader whose background in local broadcasting and news programming will bring value to our station’s broadcast and digital newsrooms,” Wert said in a statement.

Green added, “Tribune is one of the largest broadcasting companies in America, with a legacy of championing the public’s need for information. This is a rare and unique opportunity to simultaneously preserve and evolve that legacy for generations to come.”

Green’s appointment completes Tribune’s exec management team, which includes Lynda King (COO); Kathy Clements (COO); Sean Compton (president, strategic programming and acquisitions); Angela Betasso (senior VP, sales); Devin Johnson (senior VP, head of digital media); Steve Farber (senior VP, broadcast operations); Toni Falvo (senior VP, research); Hank Hundemer (senior VP, engineering); Sandra Hasan Arredondo (senior VP, human resources) and Michael Tuvell (senior VP, CFO).
