Pinewood Malaysia Studio Appoints Rezal Rahman as CEO

Studio pioneer, Mike Lake moves to content investment company

HONG KONG — The recently opened Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios has appointed Rezal Rahman as CEO.

Rahman replaces Australian Michael Lake, who since 2010 oversaw the building and opening of the studios, which are located in the south of Malaysia and are intended to serve the Southeast Asian region and attract international business.

Lake becomes managing director of Rhizophora Ventures, the content investment arm of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the state-owned investment arm that was the largest backer of the studios.

“With the official opening of the studios on June 24 and with the ‘Marco Polo’ television series in production at the studios, Michael will move into the next phase of building the creative content industry in Malaysia,” said Rafidah Aziz, chairman of Iskandar Malaysia Studios, in a statement. “On behalf of the board, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael for his contribution over the past three and a half years resulting in the successful launch of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios. We now look forward to Rezal moving the company forward through the next phases of its growth.”
