Tyler Perry laffer moves from TBS to OWN

Cabler orders new segs of 'For Better' and rights to 45 older episodes

OWN is bringing Tyler Perry’s “For Better or Worse” over from TBS, ordering new episodes of the sitcom and acquiring rerun rights to existing segs.

Perry and OWN pacted last fall, inking an exclusive TV production deal that calls for Perry to create programming for the cabler, so the transition of “For Better or Worse” over to OWN is a natural fit. Perry has two other series, sitcom “Love Thy Neighbor” and drama “The Haves and the Have Nots,” that are slated to debut on OWN in May. Those two shows mark the cabler’s first foray into the scripted world.

OWN will debut “For Better or Worse’s” third season with new episodes this fall. Deal also gives OWN rights to air 45 episodes produced for the first two seasons on TBS.

Program, which centers on three couples at various stages of their relationships, ranked as the No. 1 show on all of TV with African-American adults.

“‘For Better or Worse’ is a great addition to our growing lineup of scripted programming from Tyler,” said OWN prexy Erik Logan. “We’re excited to build out OWN’s slate of original shows.”

The show’s original cast members — Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Crystle Stewart, Kent Faulcon, Kiki Haynes and Jason Olive — are on board to return. Sitcom from Tyler Perry Studios will lens its third season in Atlanta this April.
