TV Academy Names Hood Prexy/COO

Hood succeeds Alan Perris

Lucy Hood has been named prexy and COO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, succeeding the retiring Alan Perris.

Hood has been exec director of USC’s Institute for Communication Technology Management. Previously, she serves as Fox Mobile Entertainment prexy and News Corp. SVP.

In her position with the TV Academy, Hood will report to chairman Bruce Rosenblum and Academy Foundation chairman Jerry Petry, working with them and their respective boards on strategy and business development while overseeing day-to-day operations, including digital strategy, corporate sponsorships, marketing and financial planning.

Perris, who announced his pending retirement June 10, will continue with the Academy through the end of the year as a consultant to the chairman, retaining responsibility for staff oversight with regards to this years Emmys while facilitating the transition to Hood.

“Lucy is an incredibly smart and forward thinking executive who we believe is the perfect fit for the Television Academy,” said Rosenblum and Petry in a joint statement.  “Her leadership, along with knowledgeable background in new media, is exactly the type of president/COO that the Academy requires as our organization looks toward the future of television.”

Said Hood: “I am thrilled to be joining such a prestigious organization as the Television Academy. In a time when the television industry is experiencing so much change and evolution, I look forward to helping the Academy adapt and evolve as well.”

Hood’s role at the CTM has allowed her to generate and promote research at the intersection of technology and entertainment. With Fox, she helped spearhead groundbreaking mobile efforts for “American Idol.” She has also been an exec at Paramount Pictures.
