Starz puts on dancing shoes with drama

Series will examine dysfunctional underbelly of ballet

Starz has found a new dance partner for its ballet series in development: “Breaking Bad” exec Moira Walley-Beckett and Lawrence Bender.

Untitled drama from writer Walley-Beckett follows a young female ballet dancer who has a distinctly troubled past as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. The dark and gritty series will explore the dysfunctional underbelly of the ballet world.

Bender and co-exec producer Walley-Beckett are former ballet dancers, while Brown’s family is made up of former ballet dancers whose story was the basis for the Oscar-nominated film “The Turning Point.”

Bender, Walley-Beckett and Kevin Brown will exec produce. Bender and Brown are repped by WME while Walley-Beckett is repped by UTA.
