RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network Names Jonas Engwall CEO

Jonas Engwall has been appointed as CEO of RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network, the newly formed broadcast group.

He will be based in Singapore and report directly to the board of directors.

“Jonas has vast experience in international broadcasting, and a passion for television. He has been with RTL Group for many years and was instrumental in launching its first channel in India, BIG RTL Thrill, said Andreas Rudas, RTL Group’s executive VP regional operations and business development CEE and Asia, and Reed Manville, executive VP, international channels at CBS Studios International, in a joint statement. Before joining RTL five years ago Engwall worked for Sweden’s Modern Times Group.

The US and European parent companies announced the creation of their partnership last month. They plan to launch and operate channels in 29 territories across South East Asia, carried through a mix of cable, satellite and IPTV distribution deals.

The first two new channels RTL CBS Entertainment HD and RTL CBS Extreme HD, across Asia will be rolled out this month and in early 2014 respectively.

RTL CBS Entertainment will present a mix of shows including RTL-produced “The X Factor,” “America’s Got Talent” and “Celebrity Apprentice,” as well as CBS-produced series ranging from dramas like “Elementary” and “Under the Dome” to “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “Entertainment Tonight.”

RTL CBS Extreme, will focus on action-adventure shows (“Hawaii Five-0,” “NCIS: Los Angeles”), reality competition shows and extreme sports.
