RFD-TV Readies Retro Rodeo Specials

Series of specials aims to mark Professional Bull Riders' 20th anniversary season

Some networks focus sports coverage on  football, some on basketball and baseball. At cabler RFD-TV, it’s all about bull riding.

The rural-centric net will commemorate the Professional Bull Riders’ 20th anniversary season by diving into the PBR archives for a series of 20 specials, each running 90 minutes, featuring highlights of past events. “PBR 20-20” bows May 1 at 8 p.m.

“Some of the greatest bull riding events in history have been locked in the vaults over the past 20 years, and this is the first opportunity that anyone will have to see them,” said Sean Gleason, PBR’s chief operating officer.

The PBR draws more than 2.5 million attendees to its events every year. CBS carries some bull riding events on broadcast and on its CBS Sports Network.

RFD is hoping to drive social media engagement by encouraging viewers to vote for favorite PBR moments and riders via Twitter and other platforms.

“This is a great way for our combined legions of western sports and bull riding fans across rural America to come together,” said Randy Bernard, CEO of RFD-TV’s parent company, Rural Media Group.
