Renck to oversee ‘Offenders’

Gustaf Skarsgard stars in crime drama

STOCKHOLM

U.S.-based Swedish helmer and music video director Johan Renck is to oversee crime series “Forbrytare” (The Offenders) for pubcaster Swedish Television (SVT) — his first on home turf.

Renck directed the three first episodes of “Vikings,” created by Michael Hirst, which will preem on the History Channel on March 4.

Gustaf Skarsgard, who appears in “Vikings” and Norwegian Oscar foreign-language hopeful “Kon-Tiki,” will star as a gangster in “Forbrytare.”

Gotafilm will start shooting two 90-minute episodes in Goteborg this month. Shingle produced Lisa Ohlin’s “Simon and the Oaks,” released in the U.S. by The Last Arcade in October.

The script is by Oskar Soderlund, whose previous credits include “Simon and the Oaks” and Lisa Langseth’s “Beloved.”

Renck has also directed episodes of “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead.” His feature debut, “Downloading Nancy,” preemed at Sundance in 2008.

As a music video director, Renck has worked with some of the world’s biggest stars, including Beyonce, Madonna and Kylie Minogue as well as Swedish stars Robyn and The Knife.
