New York Comedy Festival: Stephen Colbert Joins Lineup

Fresh off Emmy win, 'The Colbert Report' writing team is tapped for a panel event

The 2013 New York Comedy Festival has roped in recent Emmy winners Stephen Colbert and the writing staff of his TV skein, “The Colbert Report,” for a panel event that will take place during the November fest.

Colbert and his “Colbert Report” team of scribes come to the fest fresh off Emmy wins for variety series and for variety series writing. Called “Behind the Scenes at ‘The Colbert Report,'” the panel will incorporate clips and anecdotes for a look at the making of the show that’s now in its ninth season on Comedy Central.

The 10th annual NY Comedy Fest lines up some 175 comics to perform in a total of 50 shows at venues around Gotham. New York comedy venue Carolines on Broadway produces in association with Comedy Central.

Along with the Colbert panel, this year’s festival slate also includes a public conversation between Larry David and David Steinberg, the TV helmer who is the host of Showtime skein “Inside Comedy.” Also on tap are perfs from Wanda Sykes, Kathy Griffin, Anthony Jeselnik and Whitney Cummings, among others.

Annual benefit “Stand-Up for Heroes” also returns as part of the fest, with proceeds from the fundraiser going to support injured vets, service members or their families.

The 2013 New York Comedy Festival runs Nov. 6-10, with Colbert’s “Behind the Scenes” event skedded for Nov. 7 at midtown venue Town Hall.
