NBC Developing CIA Drama with Katherine Heigl Attached to Star

Project marks Heigl's first TV project since ankling 'Grey's'

NBC has offered a put pilot order to a CIA drama starring Katherine Heigl.

Project, from Universal TV and scribe Alexi Hawley, centers on a key CIA analyst whose job is to debrief the U.S. prez on the most pressing national and global issues.

Heigl will topline the hourlong drama and exec produce alongside Hawley, Robert Simonds, Henry Crumpton, Julia Franz and Heigl’s mother, Nancy Heigl. The mother-daughter duo will be exec producing through their Abishag Prods. banner, and the project will be produced through a joint venture between Aardwolf Creative and Simonds.

Rodney Faraon, who has debriefed several presidents during the course of his career with the government, will also exec produce the project.

Drama marks a return to network television for Heigl, who rose to fame portraying Dr. Izzie Stevens on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” She departed the medical sudser in 2010, and has since focused her acting efforts on the feature film world.

“The story is not only compelling and intelligent but a look behind the curtain at the CIA we haven’t seen before in film or TV,” Heigl said. “NBC has been a true partner in their passion and support for the show that we’ve dreamed of making, and I could not be happier about joining forces with them. Together, with our brilliant writer Alexi Hawley, I believe we are going to make great television!”
